Catastrophe Occurs as Inadvertent Detonation at Police Station in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Results in Nine Fatalities
A tragic blast at a law enforcement facility in Indian-administered Kashmir has resulted in the fatalities of nine people and injuries to thirty-two additional people, according to official statements.
The incident happened when a stockpile of seized explosive materials accidentally blew up during management operations.
Timeline of Incidents
The blast happened on Friday night at the Nowgam security post, where blast substances seized from Faridabad in the northern territory of Haryana were being stored temporarily.
Area security director declared that the detonation substances were awaiting scientific analysis when a "very unfortunate" accident during handling resulted in their blast at approximately 23:20 local time.
Authority Announcements
Police authorities confirmed that this was an "inadvertent blast" and rather than a terrorist attack. "Alternative theories regarding the cause of this occurrence is unneeded," emphasized the law enforcement head during a press briefing.
The security post endured extensive destruction from the detonation, with adjacent buildings also being influenced by the strong explosion.
Aftermath and Fatalities
Multiple vehicles were "engulfed in flames and transformed into ashen remains, with fragments distributed across the site," according to official reports.
"The intensity of the detonation was such that some human remains were found in close-by residences, approximately 100-200 metres away the law enforcement facility," stated an official source.
The majority of the victims were police officers, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a garment worker who was present with the personnel.

The territory's Regional Leader expressed commiserations and announced that an inquiry had been commissioned into the tragic incident.
"I have directed a investigation to ascertain the reason of the unintentional blast. Profoundly distressed by the fatalities of important persons due to extremely tragic inadvertent detonation at Nowgam police station in Srinagar city. My sympathies to the mourning loved ones. I wish for rapid recuperation of the wounded," expressed the authority on digital platforms.
