Followers Call for Detainment of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who breached a barrier and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was set to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Record of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features videos of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Many followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed dealing with PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further message on Instagram.
Some fans also faulted security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Many of supporters had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The motion picture, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two distinct witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were alongside co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, securing two for excellent wardrobe and production design.
