Homages Continue for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Remain Under Wraps.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community are still paying respects to the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt prepared to share openly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last put my grief into words," shared Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began passing more hours together I realized this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the film, remarking that he could not remember "one day without joy".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I recall you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a distinct essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he grasped the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles judge agreed to prevent the disclosure of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, following a petition from the LAPD.
A court order placed a embargo on the cases to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" pertaining to the probe.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a official listing noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
After the deaths, public individuals shared divergent reactions.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing controversial remarks that were broadly criticized by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his criticism to the detractors recently. Speaking on his show, Rogan characterized the comments as "disappointing" and implied they demonstrated a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an adviser ought to have intervened when the impulse to weigh in on the death was made.
