The President Invites Relatives of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The president stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump informed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Mourners gathered over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist law enforcement in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Service details for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The tragedy led the government to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with honor, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey told the gathering at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
