The Renowned Musician Encourages Support to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down after a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a group of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which reportedly raised a considerable total for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The song blends a combination of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the campaign have emphasized that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative said. “We aim for whatever we can get. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a few million won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is first of all making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from later in the month.
