Top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
